Best Telegram Games to Play: Chess, UNO, Hangman, More
Published · 4 min read
Best Telegram games to play: chess against real people or an AI, UNO in a group chat, hangman for a long queue. Each opens from a bot's page, with nothing to install. They are sorted below by how much time you have, with one slower game for collectors at the end.
How to start
Every pick below has a page you can reach by username: @hangbot, @chess, @unobot, @gamebot. Open the page, press Start, and the bot takes over. In a group, the game is a message in the thread everyone already reads, so inviting friends costs one forwarded link rather than an app-store errand. If a game suits you, forward the link to one friend first and bring it to the wider chat once you know the rules.
If you have ten minutes
Hangman with HangBot (@hangbot)
HangBot describes itself as a bot that allows you to play Hangman online. Think of a waiting room, a delayed train, the gap between two meetings. It is a game that fits into a gap, which is the reason to keep it in a chat.
Skip it if you want a game with depth. Take it if you want one you can explain to a friend in a single sentence.
Chess (@chess)
The bot's own description is short: play chess in Telegram with real opponents or AI, no installation required. That covers two moods. A quick game against a stranger is available, and so is a quiet loss to a machine on the commute.
If you have a group chat
UNO Bot (@unobot)
The bot's page says you play the card game through inline commands. In plain terms, the game runs inside the conversation itself, in the same thread where you argue about dinner plans.
UNO is built for company, so the more people in the chat, the better it gets.
GameBot (@gamebot)
GameBot is a demo bot for the Telegram Gaming Platform and offers a few sample games. It is a demo: it shows how a Play button and a per-chat scoreboard work.
Telegram announced the platform in 2016. A bot sends a game as a message with a Play button, and each chat keeps its own high-score table, so a friend can see your record and try to beat it. According to Telegram's documentation, such games can be played solo or against others, in groups and in one-on-one chats. Send one to a friend, set a score, and the format becomes clear.
If you want something for the week
Most of the games above are over when the match ends. A slower one is Citizen, a collecting game in Telegram where the goal is to gather passports from 195 countries. You apply for a country, the application keeps going while you are away, and you return to collect the passport. It is a game, and the passports in it are collectible cards. You can open it from @CitizenPlayBot.
Which one for which moment
Pick by the people around you and the minutes you have, not by the length of the list. Try one game for a few days before adding another, and share the link with one friend before you share it with the whole group. A chat that already talks all day will take a new game more easily than a quiet one, so start where the conversation already is.
A rule of thumb: the more people in the chat, the more you want UNO; the fewer, the more chess earns its place. HangBot and GameBot sit in the middle.
- Waiting for a bus: HangBot.
- Settling a debate with a friend who loves strategy: Chess.
- Six people, one chat, no plans: UNO Bot.
- Curious how a Telegram game is wired: GameBot.
Two companion pieces go further. Idle collecting games that keep progressing while you are away compares the genre across platforms, and Games like Papers, Please for your phone covers the document-stamping side of things.
